“As each one has received a gift, use it to serve one another as good stewards of God’s varied grace.” 1 Peter 4:10

Stewardship letter from Stewardship team - August 2015

August 2015 Dear Parishioner, Christian stewardship focuses on receiving God's gifts gratefully, cultivating them responsibly, sharing them lovingly in justice with others, and standing before the Lord in a spirit of accountability. (Stewardship and Young adults, USCCB)

In our fast-paced world, effective and responsible stewardship often occurs only when it is approached intentionally. Throughout the next few months as a parish community, we will be reflecting on three areas of Stewardship: Prayer, Ministry and Finance.

On the weekend of August 29th and 30th, we will focus on the Stewardship of Prayer. "Prayer is the raising of one's mind and heart to God" (CCC 2559). God is calling us to intentionally escape the noise of the world and retreat to the quietness and peace of His presence. Prayer provides us with a greater sense of clarity, passion, and purpose.

"When we pray to the Father . . . we know and recognize him with an ever new sense of wonder." - (CCC 2781)

On the weekend of October 10th and 11th, we will focus on the Stewardship of Ministry by sponsoring the annual Cathedral Day of Caring on Saturday, October 17. Parishioners will have the opportunity to minister to members of our parish and community.

"If we open our eyes we will discover that we are surrounded by need. The needs of others are always an invitation from God for us to live generously." - (Matthew Kelly)

During the month of January, 2016, we will focus on the Stewardship of Finance. Recent research found that only 7% of American Catholics are responsible for 80% of their parish's financial contributions. Frankly, we are not very good as a community in properly developing a "spirituality of finance" by focusing on all aspects of money: giving, earning, spending, and saving.

"They shall not appear before the LORD empty-handed, but each with his own gift, in proportion to the blessing which the LORD, your God, has given to you." - (Deuteronomy 16: 16b-17)

As each of us continues in our journey of faith, may God help us to live every day as generous stewards of our prayer, ministry, and financial resources.

Sincerely,

Your Stewardship Committee
